December’s Color of the Month, Darkest Day

December’s Color of the Month, Darkest Day

Available Now on Nimble Sock, Plush Single, & Plush DK!

Introducing, Darkest Day the last Color of the Month for  2025!

Darkest Day is a kettle dyed colorway made by layering color upon color with a few speckles for good measure. This limited edition yarn offering starts out just like last months colorway, Strega Nona with a layer of foggy blue, soft purple, and gold with bronze and paprika speckles and then a layer of aqua blue with a pinch of navy and peacock is poured all over. It’s finished with a soft layer of spring green and a little extra pop of gold.

This color is in honor of the Solstice, or the darkest day of the year. It’s a dusky blue with warm undertones and pops of green hidden underneath to represent what is to come after the darkest day. This image was inspiration I used for this months colorway… it was a perfect example of mood I was trying to capture.

If you are looking to pair  Darkest Day with another colorway from the featured collection, I would recommend Paprika, Forage, Fog, Persephone, Concord, Shadow, or last months colorway, Strega Nona.

I am not totally sure what I am going to make with my Darkest Day yet. I am debating between another pair of All Together Now Socks using Darkest Day paired with Strega Nona, or this Hooded Cowl pattern. One of my favorite local customers came in the other day wearing this design and I really liked the way it looked on- when the hood was down it just looked like a cozy cowl and when the hood was up you could definitely shovel your driveway in a blizzard and still be cozy. Anyway, I’m going to play around with my current projects for the night (see below) and mull it over!

Darkest Day will be available throughout the month of December on Nimble Sock, Plush Single, and Plush DK.

And speaking of Winter Solstice, Thomaston will be having a Winter Solstice Celebration this year and I will have the shop open for yarn shopping and cozy knitting at the table, plus a pop-up featuring two local artists which I will be sharing more about very soon. The Carriage House will also be open and hosting other local artisans as well as I believer a fire in the courtyard and for sure mull-cider. So if you are local, get this event on the calendar because it is going to be a cozy and special night!

It is a “snow day” in Maine today, but unfortunately for me on the coast in Owls Head it’s just a rain day. The kids sure didn’t have school though so I’ve been scrambling to work and get their needs met. It’s all been going pretty well except for just before I sat down to write this newsletter I almost burned the house down after putting a lid with condensation from chicken noodle soup onto a pan of hot oil that I made fried dough in. So yeah, I may have girl bossed too hard today and for the rest of the evening I’ll be crocheting snowflakes (left) and knitting Sardines.

I don’t have a pattern for the snowflakes, it was from a random reel I caught one night in a scroll that I watching on repeat until I memorized it but I don’t remember where or who made it! And the Sardines pattern is from Classical Songbird Designs that randomly showed up in my Pinterest feed one day and I decided that was exactly what I needed! It takes me just over and hour to knit one so I’m going to try and crank out a few more before I sew them up and stuff them, but I already can’t wait to share the results with you!
